| Discontinued waist sites
and the care-free (or sometimes criminal)
handling of toxic substance is a major threat
to our ground water. The left-overs of old
industrial or military installations prohibit
an appropriate re-utilization today –
without a prior review of their potentially
dangerous properties.
The application of geophysical methods is
an effective way to locate and assess such
dangers. Magnetics, electromagnetics, ground
penetrating radar and geoelectrics provide
a reliable means for the detection of the
dimensions of buried objects, dumps, hollows
and other inhomogeneities. These methods
can also give hints towards the leakage
potential of contaminated sites.
